Presentation - “What Will Become of Hong Kong and Taiwan as China Advances?” Hong Jiang, Associate Professor of Geography at University of Hawaii at Manoa, is a human geographer with a focus on China. Her past research explored human-environmental issues in China, and currently, she studies tea and culture in imperial China and contemporary Taiwan. On July 23, she will share her observations about the current situation in Hong Kong as the Chinese government tightens its grip on the territory with the new security law (announced on June 30, 2020). She will also discuss the implications of China’s move for Taiwan.

Naomi is a member of the Rotary Club of West Honolulu and has been a Rotarian since 2002. She served as East Honolulu Club President 2006-2007, District Awards Chair 2008-2014, District Secretary 2014-2015, District Treasurer 2016-2018, as well as serving on numerous District Committees. She is committed to supporting the District and Club leadership to carry out the mission of Rotary. She recently retired from Bank of Hawaii. She is a graduate of the University of Hawaii, with a major in Accounting. She and her husband, Dean, and their two sons have participated in numerous Rotary projects.

Our guest speaker will be Jessica Lani Rich, the President & CEO of the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii. Jessica has spent 16 years as the President and CEO of the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii. She also has worked as the Public Relations Director for the Bishop Museum and the Honolulu Academy of Arts, now known as the Honolulu Museum of Arts. She received her BA Degree in Communications from San Francisco State University and did her graduate work towards her Masters in communications at the University of Hawaii. She is also a certified Critical Incident Specialist, trained in Baltimore, Maryland. She is the author of a book titled “The Gift of Hawaii, Island Inspirations.” When she is not working at VASH, she produces a TV Show called “Inspire You & Me,” which is broadcast every Sunday night at 8:00 p.m. on Channel 11 on Spectrum Cable. She is currently the Statewide Director for the COVID-19 Flight Assistance Program. The topic of her presentation is "VASH Before and During COVID-19". Jessica will be talking about how VASH was before COVID-19 and how they are currently handling quarantine violators and other issues relating to visitors during the pandemic. Our speaker will be Edwin ("Ed") Hawkins, Executive Director of the Office of Economic Development (OED) on the staff of the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu. OED is responsible for partnering with Oahu’s businesses, non-profit groups, and communities to support economic growth and enhance the quality of life for Oahu’s residents. OED also manages and promotes International and Sister City relations for the City. The Mayor’s Agricultural Liaison and the Honolulu Film Office are attached to OED. A retired Air Force Officer, Mr. Hawkins is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Harvard University (M.A., East Asian Studies), and Japan National Institute for Defense Studies; he speaks Japanese.

Our speaker will be Megan K. Kau, a trial attorney rendering legal services as a sole practitioner specializing in the areas of civil and criminal litigation. She was born on the island of Oahu and grew up with her twin sister in Kaneohe. She attended Punahou School and the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. She is a 2003 graduate of Santa Clara Law School. After completing law school, she was certified by the State of Hawai`i as a CPA (not active). After working as a tax accountant at KPMG in Honolulu, Megan tried many cases as a career criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu. She then worked at two private civil firms before opening her own law practice. She has completed approximately 45 jury trials. Aside from her extensive legal experience and unmatched work ethic, it is Megan’s grit and resilience that ranks her amongst the most respected and accomplished trial attorneys in the State of Hawai`i. Her success in private practice has not dampened Megan’s continuing passion to serve her community. In particular, Megan is dedicated to advocating for those overlooked and marginalized individuals who are without a voice and will relentlessly fight to ensure justice for the residents of Oahu as the next Prosecuting Attorney of the City and County of Honolulu. Our speaker this week will be Nainoa Mau, theExecutive Director of Friends of the Library of Hawai’i (FLH). Mau has held that position for six years and was the FLH Program Director for four years prior. Mau is a strong believer in the importance of access to information and educational opportunities for all. He is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and earned a degree in Economics and a Masters of Business Administration at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. In addition to his work with FLH, Mau also volunteers with other community organizations and is currently the co-Chair of Hawai’i Public Radioʻs Generation Listen. Friends of the Library of Hawai’i (FLH) is the non-profit partner of the Hawai’i State Public Library System (HSPLS). The mission of FLH is to support and promote all of Hawai’iʻs public libraries. FLH accomplishes this mission by providing financial support for programs and services that are not provided for in the state budget. The biggest programs include the popular Summer Reading Programs, Institute Days for all HSPLS staff, matching grants for technology upgrades and capital expenses, scholarships for Masters of Library Science students, and much more. Funds for these programs come from membership, book sales, donations, grants, and community sponsorships. Our special speaker this week will be Bill Tobin, from ShelterBox USA. ShelterBox is continuing to provide families with shelter and other vital aid in global areas that are most susceptible to and least prepared for the covid-19 pandemic. ShelterBox, Rotary International’s Project Partner for disaster relief, was founded in the year 2000, and has responded to over 300 disasters in 100 countries providing shelter and life-saving aid to over 1.5 million people. ShelterBox has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 and 2019 for projects assisting families displaced by conflict. Bill Tobin's Bio
A member of the Rotary Club of El Dorado Hills California since 2004, Bill Tobin has served in several
club and district leadership roles and is a major donor to The Rotary Foundation. In 2016-2017 Rotary District 5180 awarded Bill “Rotarian of the Year” for his active and dedicated service to Rotary, and for his commitment to ShelterBox.
Bill began as a volunteer for ShelterBox after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Since then Bill has shared the ShelterBox story to thousands of Rotarians, organized fundraisers and awareness events for ShelterBox USA and helped lead the team of USA Ambassadors in raising over 1.4 million dollars for ShelterBox in 2017. For his volunteer efforts with ShelterBox USA, Bill has received the United States Presidential Volunteer Service Award seven times. After a 30-year career as a nuclear power plant inspector, Bill earned a certification in Non-Profit management from the University of the Pacific and joined the staff at ShelterBox USA as Rotary Relations Manager in January 2019.

Our speaker this week will be Nate Gyotoku, President & Executive Director of Junior Achievement of Hawaii.
Nate serves as the President of Junior Achievement of Hawaii, overseeing all operations for the state. Junior Achievement of Hawaii is an impact organization that inspires and empowers Hawaii’s youth to be successful in today’s global economy.
Before Junior Achievement, he served as Director of Sustainability Initiatives for Kupu, a nonprofit organization serving Hawaii's youth. There, he oversaw the organization's Sustainability Initiatives internship, the Hawaii Youth Conservation Corps (HYCC) Summer, HYCC Community, Kupu Culinary, Pacific Resiliency Fellowship, and the Hawaii Youth Sustainability Challenge programs which impacted more than 170 young adults annually.
Nate also served as Chief Operating Officer and Director of Programs for the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii in 2015 and also held the position of President for the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce in 2012. Nate also has extensive private in the technology, food manufacturing, and facilities management industries.
Nate is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and is also a graduate of Waiakea High School on the island of Hawaii. He is also a member of the U.S.-Japan Council's Emerging Leaders Program.

We have an amazing and fun facilitator - D5000 Trainer, Benson Medina from the Rotary Club of South Hilo, who will lead us in this brainstorming session.

Jacob DeNeui is a licensed architect, author, and the founder of Jacob Ideas, a leadership development company. His work focuses on helping leaders grow their capacity by expanding their creativity, balance, and intentionality. He and his wife are based out of Montana. He will be presenting a leadership principle he created called the Trampoline Principle which guides leaders into increasing their effectiveness by teaching them to manage the tension between structure and flexibility in their organization. In the presentation he will describe the power of maintaining healthy tension in whatever group of people you lead as well as strategies on how to do that in three key areas. Our speaker will be Colonel (Ret.) David H. Molinaro, Director, Hawaii Center for Advanced Transportation Technologies (HCATT). Leads a consortium of Air Force, State of Hawaii, and other key stakeholders in demonstrating, validating, and integrating the latest hydrogen fuel cell and environmentally compliant technologies for use by the Air Force. HCATT has evolved over 20 years of DARPA, APTO and AFRL demonstrations in alternative and renewable energy projects in Hawaii and is complemented by a significant investment by the National Guard Bureau and the Hawaii Air National Guard. The first initiative is the Pacific Energy Assurance and Renewables Laboratory (PEARL) microgrid, a project focused on developing an integrated microgrid utilizing 100% renewables, a variety of energy storage technologies, and cyber secure control system for sustained “off the grid” operations by the 154th Wing, Hawaii Air National Guard. The second initiative is continuing the development and demonstration of various FCEVs, support equipment, and hydrogen infrastructure in an operational military environment. The first hydrogen production and fueling station was established by HCATT to serve as a model for other Air Force installations and is currently the leading hydrogen vehicle and infrastructure activity in the DoD. Dave joined the HCATT team in April 2016 and began his tenure as Director in August 2019. He is a 30-year Air Force/Air National Guard professional with extensive CEO level experience in joint operations, strategic planning, logistics, aircraft maintenance, human resource development, and congressional advocacy. Prior to HCATT, Dave worked with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Infrastructure Protection where he conducted comprehensive classified and unclassified analysis of the nation’s critical infrastructure and provided strategic-level recommendations to DHS leadership. He brings extensive project management experience as he was directly responsible for the $400M logistics conversion of the Hawaii Air National Guard’s F-15 Eagle to F-22 Raptor. Kimberly Haruki is Vice President, Community and Market Development Manager at Central Pacific Bank, a Hawaii-based financial institution founded in 1954 by Nisei WWII veterans, which today provides a full range of banking, investment, and trust services. Kim is responsible for CPB’s community involvement program, aligning corporate objectives with engagement by Central Pacific Bank, its employees, and the CPB Foundation in the communities and markets served. Previously, she was Senior Director of Integrated Marketing at PacRim Marketing Group, which provides marketing and technology solutions for U.S. brands seeking to grow their businesses in Japan and Asia. Kim served on the Board of Directors of the YWCA Oahu and was a participant of the 2017 U.S.-Japan Council Emerging Leaders Program and the 2016 TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. Leadership Program. She received her B.A. in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University. At the meeting she will be sharing about "Keep Hawai'i Cooking" Program.
