Finding Resilient Pathways through the Climate Crisis: Insights from our Regional Climate Assessment
Laura Brewington is the co-lead investigator of the Pacific RISA climate adaptation research program at Arizona State University and the East-West Center.
She will talk about " Finding Resilient Pathways through the Climate Crisis: Insights from the Pacific Islands Regional Climate Assessment (PIRCA)"
The Pacific RISA program aims to meet critical climate information needs in Hawaiʻi and the US-Affiliated Pacific Islands through climate research, assessments, and dialog. In this timely look at the status of climate change in the region and local-to-global responses, Dr. Brewington will synthesize lessons learned from a decade of Pacific RISA’s climate decision-support work, highlighting the recent PIRCA partnerships and reports. The PIRCA network has collaboratively assessed climate change impacts, reviewing major areas of climate risk and new understanding, including human health; reliable and safe water supplies; ecosystems; sea level rise and coastal impacts; and the livelihoods and well-being of Indigenous peoples. Examples of Pacific RISA’s partnerships and PIRCA report outcomes will be shared for Hawaiʻi, Palau, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and additional locations in the Pacific Islands.
