Returned Peace Corps Volunteers
RPCVHI supports the Dept. of Land and Natural Resources' efforts to clean and improve native plant species at two marshes on the Windward Side: Kawainui Marsh and Hamakua Marsh. We join with local organizations for beach cleanups during Earth Day events and fundraising events.
RPCVHI members participate in the Martin Luther King National Day of Service by joining with other volunteer organizations to Oahu's North Shore beaches.
Every Earth Day RPCVs participate with other organizations to clean trash and plastics from Hawaii's beaches and coastlines.
One of our most successful activities has been participating in the Annual Speech Festival at Moanalua High School on Oahu. Moanalua High School has the largest second language program in Oahu and RPCVs were invited to share their use of a second language in their volunteer work overseas. Additionally, one of our RPCVs who works in the second language department at UH-Manoa was asked to judge students who gave speeches in their second language. RPCV participated in the 2022 Annual Speech Festival as judges for students in the French language classes.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Caroline Lord Mackenzie, retiree and Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV), holds a BA in Social work from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Caroline was born in Illinois, and has lived in Pennsylvania, Italy, Rhode Island, Florida, California, Singapore, Belgium, Ukraine, and now, Hawaii. She has been fortunate to travel extensively to Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Southeast Asia, India, and Western and Eastern Europe.
Because Caroline has lived overseas and all around the USA, her resume is rather diverse: Tennis coach in Italy, U.S. State Dept. dependent hire in Singapore, shoe company representative in Belgium; small business owner in San Diego, and federal cancer center grant writer at the Moores Cancer Center at UCSD and the City of Hope.
Caroline joined the Peace Corps at the age of 62. She was sent to serve in Eastern Ukraine, in the City of Lugansk. She learned the Russian and Ukrainian languages. After Peace Corps Service, Ms. Mackenzie moved to Oahu and is currently the president of the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Hawaii organization.
