I would like to welcome you to this new Rotary year! I'm excited to lead our Club in our important work to support communities locally and internationally. I joined our club 2,5 years ago and since then I've learned so much about Rotary and I keep learning. Rotary inspires me to be a better leader, professional and person. This year I plan to focus my work on strengthening our club through social engagement opportunities & fellowship, hands-on service projects and building more partnerships with other Rotary Clubs. Looking forward to seeing you all in our weekly meetings at WYC or Zoom!
Mahalo,
Ary Radnaeva

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Aloha Everyone!
My name is Gabriel, born and raised in the US but my life is always running around like Super Mario from one world to another. And if that isn’t enough, I also speak more than 5 languages and forget that I actually speak them, just comes automatically for me; my favorite line, “Oh yeah, I forgot I speak that language, I’m hungry."
Currently, I do translations and research but I also have medical and project management experience. In regards to my education, I’ve studied in Asia, Europe, and the US. I always loved traveling and meeting new people ever since I was a child. I find inspiration in other places that people wouldn’t normally look into. You’ll likely see me around foreigners, running around downtown, or on the beach if I remember to sunscreen.
I was was introduced to Rotary by a friend and after consideration, I joined the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunset. I am happy to have met wonderful members and I hope to show what I can do. I plan to make a huge impact on the community and to provide solutions during these times.
Mahalo,
Gabriel
Volunteer OpportunitiES
Jonathan Okabe shared information about activities that Honolulu Sunset Rotarians might be interested in.
Two Nonprofits I am involved with have news that could be of interest to our club members.
The first is the Friends of library. Stephanie and I volunteer there.
They have a new online bookstore because there will be no sale at McKinley this year. Check out the link on the right for more information about the online bookstore.
The Aloha medical Mission clinic has moved into a brand new dental clinic in the Aloha United Way building on Vineyard and it's been one month now. They had blessings this last week. For the first month of June we had a record-setting month treating 350 plus patients. We still have challenges from the city and the state general grants, so we're hoping that the grants continue being funded till October after which time we shall see if it is renewed. If you are in the area and want to check out the facility please stop by any week day. We are located on North Vineyard Avenue at the Aloha United Way building (across the river from foster botanical garden). Phone number: 8088473400.
Rotary’s first virtual convention inspires members to innovate and stay connected
Rotary’s first-ever virtual convention attracted more than 60,000 registrants and 175,000 viewers during its weeklong program. The robust participation shows that Rotary members are finding ways to experience fellowship and fun, key parts of Rotary’s annual international convention, despite the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the cancellation of the in-person convention planned for Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, this year.
If you missed the Virtual Convention, the general sessions and breakouts are available online. Check out the links below.
Entertainment included special performances from Australian pop-opera quartet, ARIA, and Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso, Jake Shimabukuro.
