PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Aloha my fellow Rotarians,

As we are getting closer to the end of the Rotary year, I feel immensely grateful for the opportunity to be a President of our club. It has been a great pleasure and challenge which made me grow as a leader and good communicator. I appreciate everyone’s contribution and hard work to move our club forward to success. I’m looking forward to continue my service through Rotary and help our club thrive. I’ll see you this Thursday at our special Change of Leadership ceremony!

Mahalo,

Ary Radnaeva
2020 - 2021 President of the RCHS

RECAP OF LAST WEEK'S MEETING - June 17

  • Earthquakes in Hawaii
  • Recent eruptions
  • Why Oahu and other islands are not as big as the Big Island
  • Erosion and our dilemma: saving beaches or saving homes
  • Buying beach front properties? - what you need to know

BOCCE FELLOWSHIP ACTIVITY

From Samir El-Swaify

Dear Fellow Members of the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunset

Please recall my earlier message below.  For those who already responded or signed up at our last meeting, thank you. We still have room under the allowed 25 persons for additional members to sign-up before we open it up to guests. So, if you have not signed up, and wish to join our Independence Day Fellowship; please let me know by THIS COMING FRIDAY JUNE 25 (I'll have another sign-up form at Thursday's club meeting).

Let us have a wonderful BOCCE-Fellowship celebration (the first one in many months!) and share the wonderful cuisines contributed by those in attendance.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Samir

Dear Fellow Members of the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunset

As we all know, the Zegars, our perennial hospitable hosts for July 4th are moving to Florida. We wish them well, and we are pleased that Fellow Rotarians Paul Moroz and Clare Schnurr have agreed to host our Independence Day Celebration for this year at Ko'olani condos. Because July 4th is unavailable, our fellowship is planned for for July 3rd instead. It will have an athletic scope as we split in teams competing in our traditional BOCCE ball.

This will be a POT-LUCK fellowship activity beginning at 4 pm and ending at 8 pm. Ko'olani features ample GUEST PARKING at the street level. Paul and Clare will facilitate our access to the LAWN AREA where we will meet and compete, and to other necessary facilities as well. All the supplies for the BOCCE game will be provided. As usual, our GURU for this sport will be Past President Marco. You need not be an experienced player to play BOCCE because he will teach you all you need to know!
COVID-19 Limits: Because of the expanded 25 person limit that took effect today; please know that a rapid response from you is needed for priority setting.
In your response, please provide the following information:
1. Your name and contact information,
2. The number of persons in your party,
3. Your dish contribution to the Pot-Luck (a grill will be available for our use, and will feature my Egyptian Style Lamb Shish Kebab).

Our Hosts and I look forward to your EARLY confirmation and to our first fellowship in the new Rotary Year on Saturday, July 3rd.

Warmest ALOHA.

Samir A. El-Swaify
Past President (2006-2007)
Self-Appointed Athletic Fellowship Coordinator

ROTARY MOMENT

Every year at the Rotary International Convention, one highlight is the Parade of Flags, where the flags of every country and geographic region in the Rotary world are highlighted. The narrator announces the names of all the Rotary countries, in alphabetical order, in English--from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, and then announces the countries that have joined the Rotary world in the last Rotary year. This year, Rotary welcomed Vietnam to the Rotary family.

Next year's convention will be in Houston, Texas, June 4-8, 2022. Registration is now open. The cost is $475 through December 15, after which it will rise to $575.
